Battle Units
Performance Evaluation
Random assignment of abilities does nothing to further a compelling narrative.
Outstanding Achievement
Victor Bonuses, selectable Battle Honors, and Marks of Greatness must have narrative implications that are explained post-battle, pre-assignment.
Disgraceful Performance
Battle Scars must have narrative implications that are explained post-battle, pre-assignment. If no acceptable narrative is outlined, assign any Battle Scars randomly. Devastating Blows may only be selected in place of a Battle Scar with significant narrative or as outlined by the Core Rules. If Devastating Blows is selected and the D6 result would cause a unit’s experience to drop below 0, that unit may not be used in the next battle.
More Than Soldiers
You may apply the keywords CHARACTER and BODYGUARD to any unit that contains a unit champion, when all of the following conditions have been met:
The unit’s battle tally is at least 10
The unit has been Marked for Greatness at least 3 times, with appropriate narrative
The unit has a kill tally of at least 9
All models in this unit now have the “Elite Bodyguards” ability.
The unit champion increases either their Strength and Attacks or Toughness and Wounds characteristics by 1. Alternatively, increase all 4 of those characteristics by 1 and add 1 to the unit’s Crusade Point total, 2 if Power Level is greater than 10.
This unit may make Heroic Intervention moves
This unit’s champion may be appropriately assigned Warlord Traits or Relics
This unit may not receive CHARACTER Battle Traits or Battle Scars
If the unit champion is destroyed before the rest of the unit, the unit fails all Morale tests for the remainder of the battle.
Elite Bodyguards
While a friendly CHARACTER unit, excluding BODYGUARD units, is within 3” of this unit, it benefits from “Look Out, Sir” even if this unit contains less than 3 models. Models with this ability increase their Invulnerable Save by 1, to a maximum of 4+. Models without an invulnerable save gain an invulnerable save of 6+.
